On Tuesday, August 13, a young Iranian Ahvazi youth named Saeed Ebadi, from the Malachi area south of Ahvaz, hanged himself from a tree because of poverty and unemployment and dropping out of school.

According to other news, two young sisters in Tehran committed suicide three days later due to poverty and unemployment and severe economic pressure that forced even their 75-year-old father to work.

A water official in Sistan and Baluchestan Province said yesterday that over half of the villages in the poverty-stricken southeastern province lacked water supply networks.

Abdolahad Rigi, the head of the Sistan and Baluchestan Rural Water and Sewage Company, told the semi-official ILNA News Agency that 2,868 villages in the province, out of a total of 5,594, did not have water supply networks.

Iran’s record holder in female cycling is living in poverty, forced to peddle in the streets to earn money to support her family, which is a damning indictment of the poverty levels in Iran today.

Atousa Abbasi, who has held the speed record since 2014, is forced to take her 3-year-old child with her when she sells cheap wares on the streets. Despite winning numerous medals, she said no one has given her support.

Hundreds of retired Iranian teachers gathered outside the Islamic Republic's Majles (parliament) and offices of Plan and Budget Organization (PBO) in Tehran on Sunday, July 28, to protest their treatment and demand that their pensions be adjusted because of the current economic crisis.

The angry pensioners chanted: "Teachers Die, But Will Never Accept Abjection!" and "We Will Not Step Back, Until Receiving Our Bonuses!"

On Monday, 22 July 2019, due to the lack of safety of working conditions, seven workers in the Iranian cities of Rasht, Qazvin, Gorgan and Tehran suffered accidents. In these incidents, six workers lost their lives and one was injured.

According to another report, the general director of the Mazandaran Province coroner’s office reported 25 deaths and 212 injuries in the province during the first three months of the Iranian calendar year.
